Environmental Science Minor

Environmental Science

The Environmental Science program is offered through the Department of Natural Sciences, Pitzer and Scripps Colleges .  

Learning Outcomes

1. Use foundational principles to analyze problems in nature
2. Develop hypotheses and test them using quantitative techniques
3. Articulate applications of science in the modern world
4. Effectively communicate scientific concepts both orally and in writing

Minor Requirements

The minor in Environmental Science requires the successful completion of at least seven courses and a research experience or environmental internship. Students may not complete a minor in Environmental Science alongside a major in Organismal Biology or Geology. A minor in Environmental Science should generally not be completed alongside a Biology major. Please consult with an Environmental Science advisor for more details.

• BIOL 044L KS -Introductory Biology  or CHEM 014L KS -Basic Principles of Chemistry  or EA 055L KS -Phys Geography & Geomorphology  (or equivalent)
• four courses from among the approved Environmental Science upper-division elective courses in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Geology, or other upper-division natural science electives, selected in consultation with the Environmental Science minor advisor (note: these courses may have additional pre-requisites)

Other Requirements

A relevant natural science research experience or environmental internship that matches the concentration of courses in the minor.
