American Studies Minor

Requirements for the Minor
The minor in American Studies consists of six courses. If possible, at least half these courses should be taken at Scripps, although exceptions may be made when specific courses required for the minor are only available off campus.
- AMST 103 JT Introduction to American Culture , a prerequisite course that is team-taught by members of the intercollegiate faculty in the spring semester to introduce the themes, concerns and methodologies of American Studies (one course).
- A two-semester survey of U.S. history:
- HIST070A SC United States History to 1865 or equivalent course (HIST020 PO, HIST025 PZ, HIST080 CM) and
- HIST070B SC Introduction to Modern U.S. History or equivalent course (HIST021 PO, HIST026 PZ, HIST081 CM)
- AMST 180 SC Seminar in American Studies
- Two additional American Studies approved courses selected in consultation with student’s adviser.
