EA 104 PZ -Environmental Futuring Institution: Pitzer College
Description: This course is an elective course for the major in Environmental Analysis. It explores the politics of environmental futuring across diverse histories and geographies. Drawing on works in interpretive social sciences, we examine existing and emerging efforts that shape present-day and future human-environment interactions to ensure sustainability and resilience, and how these discourses and practices create and sustain new forms of power and agency. We interrogate the socio-cultural and ethical implications of key policy issues, including rural and urban ecology, agricultural and industrial pollution, human rights-based environmental activism and litigation regarding water and oil, extinction prevention and rehabilitation, and public health. This discussion-based, seminar-style course will empower you with analytical tools and comparative sensitivities to engage in informed discussions about sustainable and resilient futures.
