SPAN 030 PZ -Food, Memory, and Power Institution: Pitzer College
Description: Food, Memory, and Power: Spanish through Latin American Food Cultures
This course examines food as a cultural practice, a form of social memory, and a site of power in Latin America. Through guided conversations, creative projects, and interdisciplinary materials, students explore how food is shaped by histories of colonization, migration, labor, and struggles for food sovereignty, while also reflecting on food as an intimate, everyday practice tied to identity and community. Designed as a multilevel Spanish course, students work across shared themes while engaging with language at different levels through meaningful communication, reflection, and creative expression.
