Modern Fiction from the Arab World

In this course students will read and write about significant novels from the Arab world post World War II to the present. Students will read these novels in conjunction with media and film examples from the respective period and country as well as other texts relevant to historical background. The list of novelists might include Naguib Mahfouz, Ghassan Kanafani, Elias Khoury, Hoda Barakat and others.
