ECON 173 PZ -Natural Resources Economics

Description: This course uses economic approaches to analyze concepts and issues linked to the use, access, management, and conservation of natural resources. The course will explore issues such as property rights, depletion of renewable and non-renewable resources, and resource allocation. The course discusses issues of sustainability, conservation, and preservation. It also examines the effects of natural resource exploitation and depletion.

 

The goal of the course is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to analyze natural resource issues using an economic perspective. At the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Use the model of natural resource economics to explain and predict events and patterns across the world.

2. Integrate an interdisciplinary approach with economic insights to improve the understanding of issues linked to natural resources exploitation.

3. Evaluate policies from a perspective of economic efficiency, cost-effectiveness, distributional equity, political economy, and effectiveness to protect natural resources and the environment.

4. Identify the uses and limitations of natural resource economics and cost-benefit analysis models.

5. Improve your understanding of research methods and topics on natural resource economics.
