ARHI 186I PZ -Contemporary Curatorial Practice

Institution: Pitzer

Description: Contemporary Curatorial Practice is a practice-based research course that centers hands-on curatorial experience and engagement with cornerstone texts used by museum professionals. Students conduct curatorial research on artists relevant to a forthcoming exhibition at Pitzer College Art Galleries and write interpretive, public-facing materials, including a proposed exhibition introduction, concise object labels, artist bios, alongside a scholarly research paper. Together, the class will workshop flow of interpretive language, test readability and engagement, and iterate based on critique and audience feedback. By the end of the term, students will learn how interpretive text supports an exhibition and the curator’s Big Idea.

Prerequisite(s): See the current course schedule for registration restrictions.
