ARHI 181 PZ -Modern into Contemporary Art Institution: Pitzer
Description: Modern into Contemporary: Art from 1945-1989. An overview of significant
issues and movements in art from 1945-1989. Mainstream and alternative art
movements are discussed in relation to the cultural politics of the post-World War
Two era. Topics include Abstract Expressionism, Pop, Minimalism, Performance and
Conceptual Art, Process Art, Land Art, Site-Specificity, Institutional Critique, Feminist
Art, and the Culture Wars of the 1980s. Emphasis is on North American and Western
Europe, with comparisons to emerging global art centers.
Prerequisite(s): Arhi 51C or another Arhi course. Please also check the current course schedule for requirements.
