CLAS 125 PZ -Ancient Spectacle

Institution: Pitzer

Description: Spectacles offered ancient Greeks and Romans countless opportunities to define and present themselves to others-as individuals, as communities, even as kings and emperors. Using archaeological and literary evidence, this course explores topics such as ancient theater, parades and triumphs, athletic competitions, gladiatorial contexts and wild beast games, mock battles, dinner parties, and even public protests. Note: as part of this course, students research, plan, and carry out a historical reenactment of an ancient spectacle (group project).

Prerequisite(s): None
