Balconies


The following are policies regarding suite balconies in Mead and at CCA.  

  1. No drinking alcohol on suite balconies, regardless of age.   

  1. No smoking on suite balconies. All residence halls are completely non-smoking.  

  1. No open flames are permitted on balconies. Including but not limited to: all types of grills (propane, charcoal, wood or other), chimineas, tiki torches, and open flame lanterns. 

  1. No throwing trash or objects from balconies or windows. 

  1. No college owned furniture is allowed on suite balconies. 

  1. Residents may not use chalk, or any other temporary paint or substance, to mark or decorate the exterior hallways, walkways, or balconies.  

  1. Residents may not paint murals on balconies without going to the Aesthetics Committee and Residence Hall Council for approval.        

  1. Items cannot be hung from public-area walkways, catwalks, and/or hallways without approval from Residence Life and Facilities.    

  2. Posters/banners/flags that meet all following decoration guidelines may be hung from suite balconies only: 

    a.    Content of all decorations are subject to the Code of Student Conduct’s III. Proscribed Conduct, D. Offenses against persons and property clauses and the Pitzer College Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment &           Retaliation Policies and Procedures.  

    b.    To ensure that all residents of the suite are comfortable with the content of the decoration(s) being hung, all suite mates must give their approval for the decoration(s) to be hung on the shared balcony.    

    c.    Must be contained to the individual suite’s balcony space only; cannot infringe into the below suite’s balcony or be hung between balconies. 

    d.    Must allow fully visible sight-lines from all sides and cannot serve as draping to conceal any part of the balcony area. 

    e.    Must be affixed with blue-tape or string to the balcony railing; no nails/screws/hooks should be used on any part of the balcony; damage to the railings/walls/ceilings of balconies will result in damage billing.
