Human Biology Combined Major

Requirements for the Combined Major

Claremont McKenna and Scripps College students may choose a dual major in Human Biology and one other discipline. Pitzer College students may choose a combined major in Human Biology and one other discipline. In both cases (dual or combined) students will combine both disciplines without being required to complete all requirements for two full majors. For the Human Biology major, students can waive one of the four upper-division biology courses (with or without a lab) and one of the Social Science or Cross-Cultural Health and Healing electives (for Track 1 and 2 respectively). Whether course requirements are waived for the other major will be up to the respective discipline.

CMC and PTZ students pursing a dual or combined major (respectively) are required to write a thesis in Human Biology. It may or may not combine skills and knowledge of both disciplines, and should adhere to the requirements of the individual college and associated majors. CMC Students with a dual major must earn at least a C (6.00) average in each of their academic disciplines.

For Scripps students, a minimum of a single thesis (one or two semesters) that integrates the skills and knowledge of both disciplines will be required (typically this will be supervised by two faculty members, each representing one of the two majors). If not possible to produce an integrated thesis, students will need to write two theses.
