A five-year program, offered in conjunction with other institutions, allows students to receive both a Bachelor of Arts degree in management engineering from Pitzer and a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the second institution. The first three years of study are undertaken on the Pitzer campus. After this, students enroll in an engineering program at the other institution. Upon completion of the two-year engineering program, students may transfer credits back to Pitzer from the other institution in order to complete their Pitzer Bachelor of Arts degree. Although formal agreements exist with both Columbia University and the University of Southern California, students can transfer to other engineering programs. It is essential for students to plan courses carefully and early in the program.
Learning Outcomes
- When confronted with an unfamiliar physical system, our students should be able to:
- If the equations are analytically tractable, carry out the analysis of the problem to completion.
- If equations are not tractable, develop a computer code and/or use standard software numerically simulates the model system.
- Analyze and assess the reasonableness of the answers obtained.
- Communicate their findings either verbally and/or via written expression.
- In a laboratory setting, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate a working familiarity with standard laboratory equipment.
- Identify and appropriately address the sources of error in their experiment.
