ANTH 118 PZ -Land, Labor, and Life in SoCal

Institution: Pitzer College

Description: Land, Labor, and Life in Southern California

This anthropology praxis course considers Southern California as a living fieldsite, tracing how migration, labor, and urban development have influenced regional social and cultural life. Through ethnographic fieldwork and community engagement, students will investigate how local institutions, built environments, and cultural traditions organize everyday experience and belonging, while attending to the ways in which people interpret and contest these conditions in their work, neighborhoods, and civic worlds. In partnership with a network of nonprofit organizations, students will participate in community dialogues, events, and outreach initiatives that connect anthropological theory with collaborative, public-facing practice.
