SPAN 171 PZ -Creative Writing in Spanish

Institution: Pitzer College

Description:
The primary objective of this Creative Writing course in Spanish is to create, develop, and strengthen our own poetic and/or narrative voice. The course focuses on the practice of writing two literary genres: short stories and poetry. With this objective, students will learn different writing techniques that facilitate the production of creative texts. They will be trained methodologically in the discipline of their preference (poem or short story). The students will also become familiar with the themes, styles, languages, and literary currents that surround us, approaching in a critical and analytical way the current poetic and narrative production taking place today in Latin America, Spain, and the regions of the United States that bring together large Spanish-speaking communities. They will also review texts on poetic theory and narrative theory, and focus on the process of production and cohesion of their own texts, sharing with classmates the gradual process of their elaboration, and gradually organizing a portfolio with the final versions of their creative writing produced during the semester.
