Political writing has a long and robust history in the Islamic tradition that is often ignored in political philosophy courses. This course aims to fill this gap by offering a survey of key political texts from the Islamic intellectual tradition. We will take a historical approach, moving from the foundation of the Islamic community in the 7th century CE through to the present day. Particular attention will be given to the incredible geographic, cultural, linguistic, and ideological diversity that exists under the umbrella of Islam.
