HIST 160 PZ -History & Sociology of Olympics Institution: Pitzer College
Description: History and Sociology of the Olympics
This course allows students to locate the reinvention of the Olympic games in nineteenth century sporting and political cultures; and chart the transformation of the Olympics from neo-hellenic cult to commercialised global spectacle. Along the way students will examine Olympic?s relationship to class, gender, ethnicity and race and how its history intersects with the global trends, from decolonisation to the rise of the global south, from the emergence of the digital age to the securitisation of urban life.
