This course charts the journey of football from its codification in victorian England as an upper class hobby to become the world’s most popular and culturally significant sport. Students will have the apporaintiy to examine football?s political dimension in relation to fascism, communism, authoritarian regimes, as well as the way in which new social movements and progressive political campaigns have sought to use the game for their own purposes.
