POST 168 PZ -Who Enters the Political Class? Institution: Pitzer
Description: Who gets to enter the political class in a country? This is an important question that affects not only the quality of government,
but also the life chances of ordinary citizens. In this course, we explore the relationship between political selection and social
mobility in comparative perspectives. By examining several cases around the world in great depth, we seek to understand why
countries adopt different modes of selection (such as election, open examination, and patronage-based selection) and what
impact each has on ordinary citizens in terms of their opportunity to ascend into the political class.
Prerequisite(s): See the current course schedule for registration restrictions.
For up-to-date information on current course offerings and details, please refer to the Pitzer class schedule on MyCampus2 Portal .
