POST 167 PZ -Nietzsche and Politics Institution: Pitzer
Description: This course introduces students to Friedrich Nietzsche’s (1844-1900) political thought, as one of the most vigorous and controversial philosophers in the history of the western philosophy. Nietzsche is well-known for his anti-democratic as well as anti-egalitarian comments and is usually understood as an advocate of aristocrazy and aristocratic values. What is more, some German thinkers had appropriated him to justy the rise of fascism in the first half of the twentieth century. But, was Nietzsche really a fascist? On what grounds does he criticize democrazy? What is his ideal political regime?
