Description: This is an advanced Portuguese course designed to help students develop skills in reading,
writing, listening, and speaking in a cultural context. It seeks a more thorough comprehension of
Brazilian Portuguese through a detailed review of the more complex elements of the language,
including irregular verb forms in all tenses, the differences between imperfect and preterit tenses,
the subjunctive mood, personal infinitives, etc. The course is built around authentic materials and
native-speaker input through which students further develop their listening comprehension skills
as well as their speaking and writing. Students engage with extended forms of communication,
such as literary readings of the Brazilian tradition, TV series, and discussions on social and
political issues in order to advance their proficiency in the language.
Prerequisite(s): See the current course schedule for registration restrictions.
