Description: This course represents an interdisciplinary exploration of the science, history, and policy
challenges of California?s beaches and coast. It will explore: the formation and dynamic
character of beaches; evolving uses of beaches including recreation and resource extraction;
political contests over access and protection; and future policy challenges such as those posed by
climate change.
