ENGL 141 PZ -Love & Violence in Erly Amer Institution: Pitzer
Description: Love and Violence in Early America
In ?Love & Violence in Early America,? we will explore how colonial-era texts begat complex representations of embodiment, gender & sexuality, courtship, and desire. Some relevant thematic units will include the feminization of early American soil; the queerness of Early American spiritual exuberance; the flexible gender roles of early Chesapeake settlements; and the male intimacy of the New (U.S.) Republic. In addition to surveying relevant primary texts, this course will also include selections from relevant theorists, as together we discover how the consequences of intersectionality manifest differently in specific historical moments and geo-cultural contexts.
Prerequisite(s): See the current course schedule for registration restrictions.
