Description: Desire and Love in Modern and Contemporary Literature How do I love thee? Let me count the ways,â€ writes poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. In this course, we follow Browningâ€™s lead, examining the diverse representation of desire in modern and contemporary world literature and learning to identify how literature intersects productively with real historical, cultural, and social conditions. Weâ€™ll focus on three main areas: desire and romantic love; desire and otherness; and desire and power. Reading across borders and in translation, this course moves from love poetry, short stories, a play and a film adaptation, to graphic novels and fiction.
