Description: The course provides an introduction to the anthropological study of illness, health, healing, and medicine. It will explore the ways that understandings and experiences of health and disease are shaped by cultural meanings, historical processes, structural inequalities, and social forces. The course will consider biomedicine as one of many culturally produced medical systems, and consider the role anthropology might play in advancing health equity.
