ANTH 103 PZ -Museums: Behind the Glass Institution: Pitzer
Description: What happens in museums “behind the glass” of exhibit cases? This course examines how museums collect, conserve and exhibit arts and cultural materials. It investigates whose cultural materials are exhibited, and by whom. Recent changes in museum practices are discussed, using examples from the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., and Native American museums on reservations. The course focuses on religious and secular arts such as carvings, ceramics, and jewelry.
