ECON 175 PZ -Corporate Finance w Green Applic Institution: Pitzer
Description: Corporate Finance with Green Applications
This course presents the foundations of financial decision-making with an emphasis on valuation and the assessment of environmental (i.e. “green”) investments. After successfully completing this course, you will understand the drivers behind (traditional) corporate financial decision-making as well as the challenges associated with unlocking private capital for climate investments. We discuss most of the major financial decisions made by corporate executives both within the firm and in their interactions with investors. Essential in most of these decisions is the process of valuation, which will be emphasized throughout the course. Topics include investment criteria, valuation of financial assets and liabilities, relationships between risk and return, capital structure choice, payout policy, as well as valuation and capital budgeting for the levered firm. The latter is studied in detail as it provides a solid background for analyzing the firm’s use of green financing options such as green bonds.
