Description: The United States in the Middle East, 1800-Present For over a century the relationship between the United States and nations of the Middle East was defined by mutual benefit and positive collaboration, especially in the fields of healthcare and education. Whereas the people of the region recognized Europeans as colonial invaders, they viewed America in a very positive light. However, these positive perceptions gave way to a more negative view of the US since the mid-20th century. To understand this radical shift, we will study and discuss events, ideas, and doctrines that have shaped the interactions between these countries since the mid-19th century.
