CHST 185C CH -Voices of the Tropics Institution: Pitzer
Description: Voices of the Tropics: Latinx Literature and the Caribbean
Students will become familiar with texts of the late 20th Century Hispanophone
Caribbean diaspora. They will become conversant in these histories with regard to US
involvement in the islands of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola in relation to the
political landscape of the domestic space, especially in relation to the family unit,
sexuality, women?s bodies, and reproduction. They will come to understand these English
language narratives as particularly US stories, thus expanding their understanding of
?American? literature and culture.
