BIOL 171 KS -Biology of Cancer Institution: Pitzer/Scripps
Description: Examination of cellular and molecular phenomena, using the cancer cells as the focus. Topics discussed will include patterns of cancer in populations, the cell cycle, stages in cancer formation, mutagenesis and carcinogens, tumor viruses and oncogenes, heredity and cancer, immune system and cancer, and biological rationales for treatments. Prerequisites: BIOL043L/044L, or BIOL040L/044L, or BIOL042L/044L; CHEM014L/015L or CHEM040L/015L, or CHEM029L, or CHEM042L, or both semesters of the AISS course (AISS 001AL, AISS 001BL, AISS 002AL, AISS 002BL).
