BIOL 129 KS -Neuromusc Physiol/Health/Disease

Description: This course will examine the pathophysiology of neuromuscular diseases and the general principles underlying how the nervous and musculoskeletal systems interact with the environment to produce coordinated movement in humans and non-human animals. Areas of discussion will include how disease states influence biomechanics of locomotion, the molecular basis for muscle contraction and the neuromuscular junction, spinal pathways, proprioceptive and other sensory feedback, and central processing in the primary motor cortex, basal ganglia, and cerebellum. Prerequisites: BIOL 043L and BIOL 044L; or BIOL 040L and BIOL 044L; or BIOL 042L and BIOL 044L; or both semesters of the AISS course; Recommended courses: BIOL 131L, BIOL 039L, or permission of instructor.
