Description: This course examines the background and beginnings of the Zoroastrian religion, exploring its development during the three great Iranian Empires: Ancient Persian, Parthian, and Sasanian; and its relationship with neighboring religions, including Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Manichaeism, Christianity and Islam. The course concludes with a focus on the forms and function of the religion in Iran, India, and diaspora, and its impact upon some of the great European literati, including Voltaire, Mozart and Nietzsche.
