Description: This course will introduce students to works by writers and filmmakers from Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa. The course is designed to provide students with a specific and global view of African creative expression. It will also introduce students to the historical and cultural contexts from which the works emerged. Special emphasis will be placed on recurring topics and themes such as: the colonial experience, the conflict between tradition and modernity, language, identity, gender, migration. Prerequisite: FREN044 or equivalent.
