SOC 091 PZ -Political Sociology Institution: Pitzer
Description: What is at stake, and what are the options for action, in the 2024 U.S. election? What are the possibilities for progressive gains or the further loss of democratic institutions and accountability? This course provides an intellectual and scholarly introduction to sociological perspectives on social, political and economic power in the context of the 2024 U.S. elections. The relationship between political institutions and neoliberal capitalism, white supremacy, and fascism will be explored, in tandem with analysis of unfolding events. The courses will involve lectures, discussions, and student presentations. Student civic engagement will be strongly supported and recognized.
