HIST 140 AF -Women: Power, Majesty, Slavery Institution: Pomona
Description: The course explores the power, the majesty, and the social suffering of women within the context of the pre-colonial, cross-cultural encounters between Africa, the Mediterranean world, and Europe. The course centers on the trans-Saharan and trans-Atlantic slave trades. It analyzes women’s political, social, and economic trajectories: as queens, merchants, diplomats, influential power brokers, and slaves.
