HIST 183 CM -The Fall of Rome: End of Empire Institution: Claremont McKenna
Description: Political corruption, economic failure, barbarian invasion, religious rupture and even the plague have all been offered as explanations for the end of the Roman Empire. But do we really understand how and when a political system and culture that enjoyed such remarkable longevity finally came to an end? This course will examine the often widely divergent interpretations of material and documentary evidence offered by historians, classicists and archaeologists. Political, economic, military, religious, social and environmental factors will receive careful attention.
Prerequisite(s): Please check course schedule for requirements.
