EA 124 PZ -Protecting Nature Institution: Pitzer
Description: Protecting Nature: Social Justice, Conservation Areas & People
This course examines the intersection of issues of social justice and nature conservation. While the creation of national parks and other protected areas has been one of the major ways that governments and nongovernmental organizations have sought to prevent the loss of endangered species and biodiversity, the exclusion of those who live such areas has created divides between “conservation and people.” In this class we will examine a variety of models for protected areas, conflicts around these areas, and the programs designed to reduce those conflicts.
Prerequisite(s): Please check course schedule for requirements.
