Description: We explore the strange world of Greek tragedy through a reading of selected plays (e.g., Sophocles, Euripides) and modern adaptations (plays and films). Why have these ancient plays been so influential? Students also learn about Dionysiac rituals, performance styles, theater archaeology, and reception theory. No prior knowledge necessary. Students will also have the opportunity to act out/direct/assist with scenes from ancient/modern plays. This course may count for either the Letters or the Fine Arts GE requirement, but not both.
Prerequisite(s): Please check course schedule for requirements.
