PSYC 187 PZ -Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Institution: Pitzer

Description: This seminar provides a broad overview of empirically supported interventions and principles of change in clinical psychology. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was originally developed for chronically suicidal individuals meeting criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder, but now is actively being applied to individuals with a range of problems involving emotion regulation deficits. We will study the structure and theoretical foundations of DBT, including its evidence base, intervention strategies, and adaptations for different populations. We will also explore social justice issues related to stigma surrounding psychological disorders, equity in access to mental health treatment, and strategies to challenge hegemonic structures and practices.

Prerequisite(s): Please check the course schedule for requirements.

Note(s): Satisfies: INT, CL
