Description: Diasporic Asian/American Popular Cultures: South & Southeast Asia This course will examine popular cultural representations of and by South Asians and Southeast Asians in the diaspora, with a substantial but not comprehensive focus on U.S.-Asia relations. Popular cultural media to be explored include film, television, theater, music, fiction, comics and graphic novels, and the internet. We will highlight the inextricable relationship between art/aesthetics and politics, taking a historical approach that considers the colonial, postcolonial, and neocolonial relations between Western and Asian countries
