Science and Management Major


This major is designed to provide students with a solid background in science as well as a grounding in managerial skills. The major requires a minimum of eighteen courses in addition to the Pitzer core educational objectives. Majors complete a core program of eleven courses together with one of four sequences, each consisting of seven courses. Students may also construct theor own sequence in science in consultation with the Science and Management advisor. Students must also complete an off-campus internship. Some major requirements may be waived due to placement.

Learning Outcomes for the Program in Science and Management

The Science and Management major aims to prepare students to be leaders at the interface of science and business and in related fields.

In addition to the general departmental goals, students completing a major in Science and Management should demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Master the principles in their specific sequence/track (molecular biology, environmental biology, chemistry, physics, or other fields) and acquire the ability to apply them to solving problems including research questions.
  2. Master the fundamental principles of economics and accounting.
  3. Gain experience in the world outside the classroom.
