Learning Outcomes for Sustainability and the Built Environment Track within the Major of Environmental Analysis
- Understand and analyze sustainable design in a holistic manner.
- Develop conceptual frameworks for critical inquiry and environmental problem solving.
- Apply design concepts and skills for a sustainability and resilience.
- Integrate scholarship and analyses to test spatial ideas.
Requirements for the Major in Environmental Analysis
The Environmental Analysis major offers four Tracks:
- Environment and Society
- Environmental Policy
- Sustainability and the Built Environment
- Environmental Science.
The Major consists of three sets of requirements:
- A Core set of Courses and a Capstone Seminar or Thesis depending upon Track
- A Track with Course Plan
- An Environmental Internship for the Environment and Society, Environmental Policy, and Sustainability and the Built Environment Tracks
The number of courses required varies depending upon track, with at least 11 courses required for the Environment and Society, Environmental Policy, and Sustainability and the Built Environment tracks. Students who choose to craft a senior thesis or project are required to enroll in an additional course of independent research and writing (EA 198). Seniors with at least a 3.5 GPA who write a senior thesis or project and are awarded an A or A- on this thesis/project are eligible for Honors. Sustainability and the Built Environment Track

- Studio art or production-based media studies course as approved by adviser (e.g., ART 011 PZ - Drawing , ART 012 PZ - Painting , ART 015 PZ - Beginning Wheel Throwing , ART 016 PZ - Beginning Hand Building , ART 020 PO - Black and White Photography , ART 021 PO - Foundations of 2D Design , ART 057 PZ - Mixed Media/Sculpture , ART 075 PZ - Watercolor *, ART 113 PZ - Drawing Workshop *; ART 125 PZ - Photography Digital *, MS 093 PZ - Media Off-Screen *, MS 182 HM - Introduction to Video Production *)
- EA 102 PO - Community Mapping (CP)
- GEOL 111A PO - Introducttion to GIS
*Courses have prerequisites
- Four electives from the following options, generally no more than two from any group:
- History, theory and ecology of the built environment
- Design
- Policy/Planning
Students may additionally write a thesis or enroll in an advanced capstone studio for honors.
Courses listed as fulfilling each requirement are subject to change and other courses may be counted toward those requirements with approval of academic advisers. |
