This course examines the contemporary politics of Latin America. It explores (1) the transformation of the region’s politics in the late twentieth century, (2) the different governing coalitions that have come to power as a result of that transformation, (3) the policies implemented by those different coalitions; (4) the effects of these policies on everyday life in Latin America, and (5) the emergence of political resistance across much of the region.
