Description: This course examines the changing meaning of labor in the United States as the nation evolved from a collection of farmers to the greatest industrial power in the world. The focus will be on workers’ reactions to the control strategies of employers, including cooperatives, unions, political movements and on-the-job resistance. The period since 1880 is emphasized.

Prerequisite(s): Some familiarity with U.S. history (HIST 26 or similar introductory course) is strongly recommend, but not required. First-years and sophomores with permission of instructor only. Please also check the current course schedule for requirements.
