ART 135 PZ - Sculptural Objects Functional Art (SOFA)

A hands-on intermediate and advanced sculpture course that deals with the hybridization of art, sculpture and furniture. Students will explore the design ramifications of various styles that emerged during the 20th century including the Arts and Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modernism, Pop and Post-Modernism. Taking a sculptural approach to furniture making, students will fabricate well-crafted pieces of their own design, testing the technical possibilities and limits of new, eccentric and/or recycled materials.

Prerequisite(s): ART 057 PZ or equivalent.
